Victrix-Osca (Madrid 1952)

This 1952 Victrix-Osca is a unique piece, with nothing else under this brand name being known.

The motorcycle displays a very high quality in its construction and it is believed that it was actually a prototype to study the possibility of entry into the Spanish motorcycle market by the Madrid firm, Fernández Santiago y Cía SL.

Its name is believed to stem from the title granted to Huesca in Roman times “Urbs Victrix Osca” that is, “Huesca Victorious City” or as it appears on the city’s coat of arms V V Osca.

This attractive motorcycle features a double cradle frame that holds a single cylinder, two stroke, air cooled, 249cc engine (with 4 speed gearbox) that delivers 11 CV and has an Amal carburettor, manufactured in Spain under licence.   It is fitted with a twin exhaust system and the tyres are 3.00 x 19″.

There is a slight puzzle. On one of the front down tubes of the frame is a registration plaque and the engine and frame numbers are stamped as 0 – 4. This begs the question, is this the fourth example and what happened to the other three? Of course, it is possible that this is the only example that reached completion and we will probably never know the full story.

This motorcycle was photographed at the Museo de la Motocicleta Española, 28802 Alcalá de Henares (Madrid)
