Junior/Reina (Barcelona 1955-1956)

RE.I.NA or Reina/Junior SL was a Barcelona based company with premises at Carrer Mallorca, 80-84.  The company was founded by Antonio de Padua Casas and there are very few documents to give many more precise details, but it is known that it produced motorcycles under the REINA brand name and motocarros and small cars under the Junior brand.

This motocarro is powered by a Villiers Type 6M, air cooled, single cylinder, 197cc, 2 stroke that drives the rear wheels via a shaft and a differential.  It is on display at Museo de la Moto y Coche Clasica, 10700 Hervás, Cáceres, Spain.

This microcar is a Junior (from the first series) dating to 1955 and powered by a Villiers Type 6M, air cooled, single cylinder, 197cc, 2-stroke. A total of 8 units of this first series were built.

The Spanish website Autopasion18 carries some anectdotal history and states that the manufacture of the bodywork was undertaken by Mr Claudi Valls. The process was carried out in the patio of his own house, in l’Hospitalet de Llobregat. It took five days to make a copy and, once the body was manufactured, it had to be manhandled across Mr. Valls’ entire house “sideways” for its subsequent transfer to Carrer Mallorca.

Subsequent assembly of the chassis, mechanical elements and final details was under the direction of Antonio Casas. The chassis was a central tube with two front wheels and one in the rear, the engine was located in the rear and had three speeds (the first examples did not have a reverse gear). It had hydraulic suspension and drum brakes and the upholstery was made by an upholsterer who was located next to the factory.
