ISO Motor Italia SA (Madrid 1952-1968)

ISO Motor Italia SA.   The Italian ISO company – the ISO taken from the industrial company ISOthermos of Bolzaneto – invested some capital to a company in Madrid called “Motor Italia, SA”, which manufactured small auxiliary motors for bicycles under license from the Italian ITOM.  This became “ISO Motor Italia, SA” and manufactured the ISO and Isocarro motorcycles and motocarros in Spain from 1951.

ISO Motor Italia SA established a factory in the Carabanchel area of Madrid from where they manufactured motorcycles and motocarros.

This ISO sidecar outfit features a 150cc, two stroke, air cooled, split cylinder engine.  These engines were well established at 125cc, but a larger version was also built.

ISO Motor Italia SA Motocarro

The ISO Motor Italia SA Motocarro in the photo dates from 1957 and is fitted with an air cooled, single “split” cylinder, ISO 125cc, two stroke engine and shaft drive.  This specific machine was used extensively in the Azpeitia area for the delivery of bread, and it has been beautifully restored and is on display in the Basque Railway Museum at the old Azpeitia Railway Station.

The engine cowling can be clearly seen as this enabled a form of forced air cooling to compensate for the restricted air flow to the engine.
