INESMO (Valencia 1940s-1953)

INESMO (Industria Española de la Motocicleta) were based in Valencia (Calle de Villahermosa, 10) and were active from the late 1940s through to 1953.  Originally, they installed auxiliary engines to the frames of bicycles and incorporated a roller transmission system, making contact to the rear wheel. They then progressed to manufacturing a dedicated velomotor of 65cc with a 2-speed gearbox and a deformable parallelogram front fork.

In early 1950s Spain, these auxiliary engine bicycles and velomotors were the primary means of transport for the masses. The Inesmo engine in the photo is installed in a BH** cycle and drives the rear wheel by a chain.

**BH (Beistegui Hermanos) was founded in Eibar in 1909 by the three Beistegui brothers.  Initially an armaments manufacturer, they moved into bicycle production after the First World War and are still a well-known and respected cycle manufacturer. In 1959, BH relocated to Vitoria-Gasteiz, still within the Basque country.
