Garate, Anitua y Compañía (GAC) was a company located in Eibar in the Basque Country (Spain). The original GAC company can trace its origins back to 1848 when it was established to manufacture Armaments – predominately automatic pistols, rifles, and shotguns.
The company was reformed in 1892 following the death of one of the original founders and continued with the production of Arms. Around 1915 it diversified with the manufacture of bicycles and around 1930, it devoted itself fully to the production of bicycles, which were in great demand until well into the 1960s.

In 1951 GAC signed a licensing agreement with Motobecane to manufacture specific models. The Eibar brand had decided to operate as a licensed manufacturer in preference to creating its own designs. The agreement with Motobécane saw the Spanish launch of the most well-known and celebrated machines in the sector: the Mobylette which were built in Eibar until GAC relocated to Abadiano in 1977.
