Fenix bicycles were manufactured in Eibar (Guipuzcoa) by Echave, Arizmendi y Cia SA, who became Echasa, still based in Eibar. Initially the cycles went on to be fitted with different auxiliary engines but, in 1950, a full moped version was produced.
This first moped used the 48cc IRESA, 2-stroke, 2 speed engine of 1.5 CV which, in 1951, was uprated to the 53cc IRESA unit of 2 CV.
