BARI (Vitoria-Gasteiz 1979-1982)

BARI was born from the union of Rodolfo BACAICOA and Nájera RITUERTO (the name is composed of the first syllables of their surnames). In this arrangement, Bacaicoa is the technical force, whilst Rituerto is the commercial driver.

Their first model, the “Orix” moped, presented at the Barcelona Motor Show, came with the Italian IEMME, 49.9cc, single speed engine.  Bari was the first brand to use this engine and it proved not to be a great success, being under powered with a claimed 1.48 CV.

This Bari Moped is in the Team Lazpiur Collection at Bergara, Gipuzkoa

The main frame was of a rectangular section tube.  This also acted as the fuel reservoir, containing just under 4 litres of two stroke mixture that was accessed under the lockable saddle.  The frame also incorporated two fibreglass, lockable panniers.

Reviews of the day acknowledged that the Orix was a very attractive moped visually but that there were issues with the finish and the metallic blue paint (the only colour offered) chipped easily.
