
Founded in 1939 under the name BAESAL Construcciones Mecánicas an acronym from the name of its founder BAutista ESplugues, from ALgemesí, Valencia. Initially, the company operated as a workshop that repaired automobiles during the Spanish post-war Civil War period (1939).
In 1942/43, they began manufacturing and selling two stroke auxiliary engines that could be mounted inside the frame of a bicycle. This engine had magneto ignition, a single gear, and chain transmission to the rear wheel.

In 1943, the company changed its name to BJR Construcciones Mecánicas, after the initials of Bautista and his two sons, Juan and Rafael
