The company was founded by trials riders Albert Juvanteny (from Sant Boi de Lluçanès) and Francisco “Quico” Payà (from Mataró). They had been riders together on the OSSA Team.
Francisco “Quico” Payà was born in 1953 in Vilassar de Mar but has lived in Mataró since he was 9 years old. His father created a motorcycle workshop in Mataró, where Quico grew up and was trained mechanically. Motos Payà is still a going concern, now based at Carrer Batista i Roca 21, Mataró.
Albert Juvanteny was born in 1953 at Sant Boi de Lluçanès (Osona). A sucessful Trials rider, active from 1974 to1985, he was an official OSSA rider for 10 years. He was also a bike designer and, in addition to the JP, he was involved with the Alfer project.
The JP TR325 used an Italian Villa 327cc engine** with 6 speed gearbox mounted in a frame based on the OSSA MAR and were built between 1987 and 1990. They were assembled in the Mataró repair shop, then based on Ronda President Macia, Mataró. Highly sought after, they were expensive at the time as a lack of support industries in Spain meant that many components were imported from Italy.
** The later JPs used a Gas-Gas engine.
The total production run was 100 machines.
This rare JP TR325 is on display in the David Sala Collection at Sales de Llierca, Catalonia. This example has wire spoked wheels but appently only 12 customers chose to have traditional spoked wheels. The bulk of the production had the 3 spoked wheels.
