Fuste (Barcelona 1924-1929)

Julio Fusté Cercós was involved in numerous vehicle enterprises over the years in the Barcelona area, but he was always a slightly enigmatic character. His personal history is vague, with gaps in some areas that has proved difficult to research accurately.  Initially, Fusté had built a distinguished reputation as a blacksmith and welder and, as a hobby, he was a competitive cyclist from circa 1910. He turned to motorcycle racing from 1921 to 1925, campaigning DKW, Matchless and Norton machines.

In late 1924 he set himself up at premises at Carrer Valencia 29, Barcelona and he started to assemble motorcycles and sold them under the brand name Fusté. He used frames from another Barcelona firm, Josep Montpeó and powered them with 175cc and later 250cc Villiers engines.  He is also documented as using 125cc and 200cc DKW engines, but I cannot find any evidence of any of these surviving.  His overall production only totalled 50 units by 1929, when he ceased production of the Fusté brand.

The 1927 Fuste 250cc (Villiers 247cc) was photographed when on display at CASC (Col·lecció d’Automòbils Salvador Claret), Sils, Girona, Catalonia
